Statistical Physics

Part of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

Researchers in Statistical Physics:

Robert Coalson, David Jasnow

Sub-groups in Statistical Physics:

This research group has no subgroups.
Three of our theory colleagues, Coalson, Goldschmidt, and Jasnow, are working in the field of statistical physics. Boyanovsky’s earlier work also belongs in this category. Coalson’s work is centered on single-molecular transport through ion channels and structure/dynamics of charged colloidal suspension. In the latter work, he collaborated with Duncan, a high-energy theorist in our department. Goldschmidt has a strong background and interest in disordered systems. His early investigations focused on finding solutions to random-field and spin-glass models. Currently his work focuses on two topics: (a) structure and dynamics of linear polymers in the presence of quenched disorders, and (b) melting transitions of flux lines in high-temperature superconductors. Jasnow has been working on various problems related to phase transitions, pattern formation, and interfacial phenomena for a number of years. Recently he teamed up with A. Balazs of the Chemical Engineering Department to solve emerging problems in polymer physics and nano-structures of phase-separating fluids with various inclusions.
