Sub-groups in Particle Physics:

Experimental program

The experimental particle physics program has three main thrusts: CDF II at Fermilab (Joseph Boudreau, Paul Shepard), ATLAS at LHC (Joseph Boudreau, Wilfred (Bill) Cleland, James Mueller, Vittorio Paolone, and Vladimir Savinov), and neutrino physics (Steven Dytman, Donna Naples, and Vittorio Paolone). We maintain some participation in CLEO, although it is confined to data analysis of prior CLEO runs (Dytman and Savinov).

Current Theoretical Program

Anthony Duncan, Adam Leibovich, Ralph Roskies and Eric Swanson constitute our research-active faculty in Particle Theory. Frank Tabakin, professor emeritus, will remain active in research. Ralph Roskies is primarily engaged in administering the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, although he remains a TTS faculty member. Research in the theory subgroup includes a number of timely topics including: lattice quantum chromodynamics (Duncan); effective field theories (Leibovich); electromagnetic production (Tabakin); hadron spectroscopy (Swanson, Tabakin); and quantum information/computing (Tabakin). During the past several years we have also had theoretical work done on the physics of quark-gluon plasmas (Boyanovsky); however, his research has now shifted more toward neutrino physics as relevant to early universe studies.
