Lear was the first Beowulf cluster to be assembled in our department and is now dedicated exclusively for lattice QCD calculations using Fermilab's CANOPY software library.

Hardware Configuration:

Currently consists of 8 slave nodes and 1 master node networked by a 100 Mb/s ethernet switch

• 384 MB Samsung SDRAM
• 13 GB on two Ultra Wide IBM Ultrastar SCSI HD
• Kingston KNE-100TX Tulip-based enternet card
• 3Com 10base-T ethernet card (for outside LAN)
