Beowulf Supercomputer, Department of Physics and Astronomy,
University of Pittsburgh
The PCF is a high-performance parallel computational facility within the department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh. Our facility currently consists of two Beowulf class supercomputers, Tempest and Lear, which are designed to solve large-scale scientific problems. Each node within these clusters is running the freely available Linux operating system (RedHat Linux). Parallel capabilities are achieved through the use of the MPI and PVM communication protocols. Job scheduling and execution for all users is handled by the Distributed Queueing System (DQS). For more information about the Beowulf cluster movement, visit the homepage at CESDIS.

Our department would like to acknowledge the involvement and generous support of the following professors: David Jasnow (Chair), Frank Tabakin, Raymond Willey, H. Anthony Duncan, John Hillier, Andrew Connolly, Richard Pratt, David Turnshek, Walter Goldburg, and Regina Schulte-Ladbeck.
