Useful information
The Color of the Milky Way
- In January 2012, Tim Licquia and I presented a new determination of the color of the Milky Way Galaxy we live in. The answer can be expressed in haiku form:
Look at new spring snow -
See the River of Heaven
An hour after dawn.
For more information see:
- The University of Pittsburgh's press release, including images of Milky Way analogs: galaxies that should resemble the one we live in, but as seen from outside.
- A video of the press conference this work was described in, at the American Astronomical Society's winter meeting in Austin, Texas.
