This is intended to be a list of Web resources
useful to astronomers, though you can find far more complete sets of
links
elsewhere . These are the resources I've found most indispensable; this
page is
by no means comprehensive!
The first place I go when I'm looking for information is NASA's Astrophysical Data Service. It provides an exhaustive, searchable listing of astrophysics papers, with the abstracts of most and the texts of many.
When I'm looking for the most recent results, I go to the Los Alamos Preprint Archive. It covers other branches of physics, as well.
A classic astronomical resource, the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey, has been digitized. You can observe most of the northern sky from at your desk.
I do much of my work with IDL, a computer language optimized for handling images and arrays. IDL has its own home page.
Some astronomical journals are available on the web; the Astrophysical Journal is the standard. The Ap.J. is supervised by the American Astronomical Society.
It's easy to find out what conferences are
coming
up at the International
Astronomy Meetings list.
