My dearest, my lovely, you dwell in sweet dreams, this weekend will bring us down, me to you, and you back to the old country, when we meet again in Shropshire, to excercise our public footpath rights, or to stand on the bluff gazing over the fields and farmland. The conquerors in mind. This Sunday there are four options: 1) From Church Stretton up Dryhill through the forest, turning southwards over some farmland, over the railway and river in the bottom of the valley. Via Manor House follow the river up to the ridge. Over The Port Way which runs over the broad ridge, stopping at the triangular point at Pole Hill and down again at Carding Mill Valley, straight into Church Stretton. 18km, 500m ascend. 2) From Church Stretton southwards along the river to Little Stretton. From there straight up the hills, and along the broad ridge northwards, again via Pole Hill, until Robin Hoods Butts over the hills straight into Church Stretton. 13km, 350m ascend. 3) From Church Stretton around Helmeth Hill through the forest. Over farmland, fields and a marshy field to the forest of Birch Coppice. Back along the main valley at the feet of the hills. 16km, 150m. 4) From Church Stretton along the valley in the feet of the eastern hills. Crossing the broad valley, the river and the railway to All Stretton, and back through the feet of the hills along the western side, going around the far side of Nover's Hill. 11km, 100m ascend. THE CRITIC'S CHOICE: 5) (Mike) Starting from Henley walking over the dismantle railway along Wenloc Edge. Turning at Eaton, first through the forests at the foot of Wenloc Edge and then up to Callow Hill. Straight down to Henley. 6) (Creamy) Stiperstones from Linley. Starting from Linley walking up slowly to Stiperstones, via Devils Chair down, between low hills back to Linley, the last part along West Onny River. And the bus goes south, south, south.....
